Last month

Last month we saw beautiful weather and the last of green grass.

Hugh played in his exersaucer. He loves this toy.

And he also ate a bunch of rice cookies. They are perfect for little ones who aren't ready for teething biscuits. So soft. Melts in your mouth. And in your hands. And on your clothes.

We spent a good deal of October overwhelmed with work responsibilities, graduate school assignments, and the crud. Here's hoping that November will be a little bit less stressful.

Father's Day 2011

Happy Father's Day, Daddy! Love, Hugh
Laughing at his card.
This Father's Day was extremely important because it was Jason's first Father's Day as a daddy. That morning Jason opened his gift from Hugh. Part of his gift is money to go towards a pistol. But I wanted to get him something unexpected. I was going to get some accessories for his grill, but as I walking through Target I spotted the perfect gift - a hammock.

I couldn't wait for Jason to open it. When I saw the hammock, I pictured many lazy summer evenings spent there. I could see Jason and Hugh relaxing after swimming or playing in the yard.
This gift was extremely heavy and hard to wrap. What could it be?
A hammock (and hammock stand)!
Then, we headed off to Beaumont to go to church at First Baptist Church (where all of Jason's side of the family goes). MiMi came with us. During the opening prayer, Hugh let out two huge burps. I'm not sure that he will be invited back, lol!

My little monkey!
We enjoyed the service at FBC Beaumont. Except for Hugh. It put him to sleep, lol!
After church we headed to John and Skye's house for some smoked ribs, grilled pork chops and sausage, corn casserole, salad, baked beans, and rolls. Yum!

Yummy food.
This was Sherry's last day to be pregnant because Benjamin was born the next day!
Uncle Jason and Aiden are staring each other down.
Cousin Aiden is such a cutie!
And, he was talking up a storm! I think he was excited to have another baby to talk to.
Except by this time, Hugh was tired and overstimulated. So, he kind of ignored Aiden.
But that didn't stop Aiden from talking.
Comparing feet. Aiden is just a little bit bigger, but Hugh is determined to catch up!
Audrey got to hold Hugh (with the assistance of Sherry and Jamie).
This is Audrey's last day to be an only child.
Making her daddy proud - cup in one hand, smoked rib in the other.
Uncle Jamie and his nephews.

Before heading back to Petal, we stopped by to see Nina V. Hugh had not seen his great grandmother since the day after we brought him home from the hospital. He's gotten so much bigger since then!

Great grandma, Nina V, had not seen Hugh since the day after we brought him home!
PaPaw loves his grandson!
They are already planning hunting and fishing trips.
Daddy is showing off the gun that one day will be Hugh's.  *Ahem - one day will be a long day from now! Mommy's orders.*

Daddy is determined. Mommy insists that Hugh will learn to walk first. LOL!
Hugh looks like he is in the middle of a song and dance.
That evening Jason and PaPaw went fishing.

Dinnertime!

All in all, it was a great first Father's Day!

Welcome, Benjamin James Sheffield!

This morning we welcomed our nephew, Benjamin James Sheffield, into this world. He weighs 8 lbs 2 oz and is 20 3/4 inches long. Congrats to Jamie and Sherry! Momma and baby are doing well.

Mommy and Hugh's early morning nap

Since Hugh still gets up at 5 a.m. for an early-morning bottle, I find it necessary to do an early-morning nap. After feeding Hugh, we lay down and nap until the 8 a.m. feeding. That seems to be the only way I can maintain my sanity!

Old phone (LG) versus new phone (Samsung Galaxy S)
Jason and I finally caved in and got smartphones. I didn't necessarily need a smartphone, but I desperately needed a new phone. My little LG was well-loved. And no longer functioning properly. It would have a full battery but turn off for hours on end. On its own. I would be sitting on the couch with a full bar, and yet it would constantly lose the call. Since, Jason and I do not have a land line, having a working cell phone is a must. The plan wasn't that much more, and the phone wasn't too expensive. So, we took the plunge and got phones that are way too complex for us, lol!

We inherited some gorgeous red lillies with the house and they are in full bloom right now. I love these flowers. I don't have to do anything to them; they come back faithfully year after year. That's my kind of plant!

Still learning how to use the fancy phone...

Thursday, I met up with MiMi, Amelia, Abigail, Adam, and Jason for lunch at Sweet Peppers. Yum. Then Hugh and I went to Target to get some gifts. We found Jason the coolest Father's Day gift. More to come on that later.

Jason had to work Saturday, so on his way home he stopped by Corner Market to get a few things. And, he picked up something special for us to snack on - Spicy Shrimp Sushi. I avoided sushi throughout my pregnancy since it is on the no-no list (though it really is uncooked sushi, but I played it safe and avoided all). Therefore, this was an extra special treat. And it was super good!

Sunday we celebrated Jason's first Father's Day, but I will save those pictures for another post.

Week in Photos: June 6-12, 2011

This week was somewhat relaxed, which suits me fine. Little man keeps growing and smiling more every day. In fact, we can tell he wants to laugh so bad! Not quite a laugh, but he's on his way.

Hugh spends a lot of time in his crib with his new toy, courtesy of Parents as Teachers. It is on loan for the month. He loves this mobile. He stares at it, kicks his legs, moves his arms, and bangs all the hanging pieces. He also smiles a great deal when I put him under it. He will play for a good 20 minutes before giving me a whimper that lets me know it's time to get out.

Hugh also got his first bo-bo this week (not counting shots). He got a teeny tiny little scratch on his forehead. It was the size of a pinhead, so nothing serious. But I put a band-aid on anyway, just to be safe. New mom syndrome.

PawPaw, LeaLea, and Kinlea came over for a visit. I'd like to think they came to see Jason and me, but we all know the truth!

LeaLea and Hugh have a staring contest.
Kinlea comes over and reads Hugh's books before holding him.
Giving sugars. Hugh was getting ready to have a melt-down at this point. It was that time of day for us.
On Saturday, Jason and I went to see the newest X-men movie. Super good though not appropriate for young children. It's rated PG-13 for a reason.

Afterward, we went to Mugshots and had some awesome burgers. It was Jason's first time to eat a Mugshot burger. They are soooooo good. If you haven't had one, you need to try it.
